Do Solar Flares Trigger Earthquakes?

First let us pose the science question we wish to answer: do solar flares cause earthquakes? Note that this is more specific than asking ‘is there a relationship between solar activity and earthquakes?’. First of all, solar activity can mean flares, or coronal mass ejections, or bursts of solar wind. Here I will focus only on flares, but do bear in mind that flares and CMEs often occur in tandem. Secondly, we are asking if flares CAUSE earthquakes; not whether a LACK of flares cause earthquakes. If flares do indeed…

Did Solar Flares Trigger the London Riots?

When it comes to factors that triggered the London riots, theories abound: Police brutality, unemployment, and “moral collapse” have all been blamed for the violence, burning, and looting that consumed London last week. But some scientists are finger-pointing skyward, suggesting that the sun could have driven the unrest, as well as last week’s wild stock market fluctuations. A series of powerful solar flares – sometimes known as geomagnetic storms – hit the earth last week, and there’s some evidence that the solar storms can have a profound effect on human…

How Recent Solar Flares Are Affecting Us

Solar Flares Are on the Rise Our sun is presently in the midst of an active phase of its 11-year solar weather cycle. What this means is that the surface of the sun is erupting with sun-storms and solar flares. Eruptions on the sun’s surface can blast tons of plasma into space — sometimes right towards the Earth. Over the last month the sun has been extremely active. There have been five major solar flares recorded since Feb 14, culminating in a massive flare that occurred on Wednesday, March 10th.…

Geomagnetic Storms and the Link to Suicide & Depression

Solar flare radiation plays havoc on human behavior, along with the power grids, communication systems, and navigation satellites. Researchers have found correlations between mood swings, depression and suicides when solar flare radiation is present. Michael Berk of the University of Melbourne has found a link between the suicide rate and increase in the geomagnetic storms, which are triggered by solar flares. He matched the number of suicides to the dates of the solar flare radiation activity and found that during the solar flare radiation events, more suicides occurred, according to…

Understanding Sunspots and Activist, Protest Strategy

By Carol Moore – revised on January 2011 In the mid-1980s, writing in two small radical publications, I predicted the dissolution of the Soviet Union and freedom for eastern Europe for the exact month that it did in fact happen. I did not predict it specifically for November of 1989. I predicted it for the height of the next eleven year sunspot cycle. The height occurred in November of 1989. And, as this article argues, this was no coincidence. For sunspots give off solar flares that increase negative ionization on…

Solar Maximum & Earth’s Weakening Magnetic Field

Alex Ansary – February 25th, 2009 Introduction New scientific discoveries are indicating that this next solar flare cycle could potentially be powerful enough to disrupt our planet’s entire electric grid. In this report, I will document the number of changes taking place with our magnetic field, the sun and our solar system while explaining some of the concerns that today’s leading scientists have voiced. I will also be examining how humankind may also be affected energetically. What is Electromagnetic Pollution? TV, cell phone towers, power lines, and house appliances—while they…

Does the Earth’s Magnetic Field Influence Suicide Rates?

Many animals can sense the Earth’s magnetic field, so why not people, asks Oleg Shumilov of the Institute of North Industrial Ecology Problems in Russia. Shumilov looked at activity in the Earth’s geomagnetic field from 1948 to 1997 and found that it grouped into three seasonal peaks every year: one from March to May, another in July and the last in October. Surprisingly, he also found that the geomagnetism peaks matched up with peaks in the number of suicides in the northern Russian city of Kirovsk over the same period.…

Beyond Warring Behavior

by Buryl Payne PREFACE This paper is about the study of the Sun and humanity’s interaction with it.  Ancient people worshiped the Sun and recognized it as the source of all life. Over time, this knowledge was forgotten and ignored in the search for day to day land resources and people to conquer.  Humans have acquired beliefs in lesser powers while the Sun, our source of all life, continues to bathe the Earth in its radiance, giving warmth and life. This paper, based on the work of many others, illustrates that…
